Klàra Ács graduated in 2000 from the University of Szeged, Hungary in Molecular Biology. She completed her PhD project in developing homolog transformation system in the zigomycete fungi Mucor circinelloides in order to be able to increase the carotenoid synthesis. In 2005, she received her PhD in molecular microbiology and biotechnology from the University of Szeged, Hungary. After receiving her PhD, she joined the group of Alexei Kisselev at Dartmouth Medical School, Norris Cotton Cancer Center, Hanover, USA for as a postdoctoral fellow. In the Kisselev lab, she studied the proteasome and proteasome interacting proteins and discovered a fundamentally new role of proteasome in cell function. In 2009, she joined the lab of Nico Dantuma at the Karolinska Insitute where she is investigating the ubiquitin-proteasome system and its involvement in the DNA repair mechanisms. Besides work she enjoys traveling, swimming, music and reading.
